Ava and her ice cream
Okay, okay, so these pictures are REALLY old. Josh took them sometime this summer. I've been meaning to blog more often, but, well, life gets busy. You know how it is. So, anyway, it's pretty much an unwritten rule that you can't be a Solar if you don't like ice cream. And if you're 2 years old and your name is Ava, you will also make a huge mess with said ice cream.

Silly Songs
If you don't have kids, but have thought about it, this (in my opinion) is a good endorsement for them. To quote John C. Reilly in Step Brothers, Max, I think you have the voice of "Jesus mixed with Fergie" :)
And if you're curious, this song comes from the BEST kids cd ever. Kimya Dawson's "Alphabutt" album.

Solarisms: You're not coming up until you give me a kiss...
It's amazing to me how family culture is born. And how much kids love repetition and will grab hold of any random moment and turn it into a family tradition. One day, a long time ago, I raced up the stairs and shut the gate before the kids could past. I demanded, "You're not coming up until you give me a kiss!" And it's now such a common thing around our house, that I can't even remember when a kiss wasn't expected as payment for opening the gate. Nowadays, it's Max and Ava demanding kisses to open the gate. Every time we come home, they race up the stairs and stand waiting, lips puckered. I have to admit it makes me smile...
