Superman & Batman

Ever since Max and Ava got super hero jammies a year ago or so, they love to pretend that Max is Superman and Ava is Batman. It's so cute. Ava has gotten into the habit of saying, "Mommy, I want you to call me Batman FOREVER!"

iPhone Videos: Lia's Baby Sign

We did baby sign language with all of our little ones. In fact, our good friend Dave was the first one to tell me about baby sign language way back when Max was a teeny baby. I'm going to dig around and see if I can find any old videos of Max and Ava doing sign. It's been such a great transitional communication tool for our family. Lia doesn't talk much, but she will do a few baby signs that at least give us a glimpse into what she's thinking. The signs she regularly does are: more, bite, drink, all done, and an occasion milk sign. Here are a few videos of her showing off her skills...

So Max got a hold of daddy's iPhone the other day and took this video of Lia. I laughed so hard when I watched it and knew I had to post it. So enjoy!

Solarisms: You're not coming up until you give me a kiss...

It's amazing to me how family culture is born. And how much kids love repetition and will grab hold of any random moment and turn it into a family tradition. One day, a long time ago, I raced up the stairs and shut the gate before the kids could past. I demanded, "You're not coming up until you give me a kiss!" And it's now such a common thing around our house, that I can't even remember when a kiss wasn't expected as payment for opening the gate. Nowadays, it's Max and Ava demanding kisses to open the gate. Every time we come home, they race up the stairs and stand waiting, lips puckered. I have to admit it makes me smile...

Favorite Things

So I was snuggling my kiddos at bedtime the other night and I asked each of them what their favorite thing was from the day.

Ava said, "I had a popsicle mom... A green one!"

Max said, "Playing fire trucks with Ee."

Overheard...

Max: Ava, you're not the boss!
Ava: Yes I am the boss Max!
Max: No, mommy is the boss!

Yep, and don't forget it :)

Okay, so today I actually had the following conversations with my kids...

Max (overheard): Ava, let's go play blocks!
Mommy: Max & Ava! Before you play blocks, you guys need to clean up the toys the living room.
Max: But mommy, we're going to play in a clean room.


Ava (running naked after her bath): I'm frickin cold!
